“Just Kickin’ It” is a single by American R&B group Xscape. The song is the first single from their 1993 debut album, Hummin’ Comin’ at ‘Cha. The single was Xscape’s most successful hit, and it peaked at #2 on the Billboard Hot 100 charts.

After the single’s release on August 13, 1993, it entered the Billboard Hot 100 charts at #90, and within four weeks, “Just Kickin’ It” reached the top 10, peaking at  #2 in October.

In November of the same year, “Just Kickin’ It” was certified platinum in the US after selling more than a million records.

• The five-member American girl group Xscape formed in 1991 and became a quartet after Coggins-Wynn left in 1992.

• American rapper, songwriter, and record producer Jermaine Dupri discovered Xscape, signing them to his record label, So So Def.

• Xscape’s two biggest hits include “Just Kickin’ It” and “Understanding.”

• “Just Kickin’ It” enjoyed much success on the Hot R&B Singles chart at No. 1, spending four weeks at the top.

• The song topped the hot 100 Singles Sales chart for a week.

• In the UK, “Just Kickin It” rose to #49, and in New Zealand, it reached #22.

• Following the song’s success on several charts, it earned a Soul Train Music Awards nomination the next year. However, they lost to H-Town’s hit single, “Knockin’ Da Boots.”

• Originally, the song expressed what men wanted from women, and some female fans and critics felt the song’s lyrics had a sexist message. However, former Xscape group member LaTocha Scott dismissed the critics, saying that everyone knows that a man wants a woman who knows how to cook.

• Xscape worldwide music sales span more than 7 million records.
