Cryptozoology / noun / krip-tow-zoo-aa-luh-jee

Cryptozoology is the study of and search for the existence of creatures that are suspected to be real, but there is no substantial evidence to prove that they actually exist. Sasquatch and the Loch Ness Monster are popular creatures studied by cryptozoologists.

In a Sentence

One of the most popular wonders of cryptozoology is the Loch Ness Monster, also known as Nessie, which comes from Scottish folklore.

The most widely talked about creature, shrouded in mystery and frequently talked about over campfires but still never confirmed to actually exist, is Bigfoot, also known as Sasquatch. Sasquatch is an ape-like creature that is suspected to inhabit the forests of North America.

While some people may pursue cryptozoology as a career, others choose to study it as a hobby due to the fact that you may never find any real evidence of these creatures existing.

Etymology

The word cryptozoology dates back sometime around 1959. The Ancient Greek origins translate to “the study of hidden animals.” The breakdown of this translation from Ancient Greek is with kryptos meaning “hidden, secret,” zolon meaning animals, and logos meaning “knowledge, study.”
