The Pugapoo, a mix between a pug and a poodle, is a lesser-known breed of dog. But that doesn’t make them any less adorable.
Because the Pugapoo is a crossbreed, no two litters (or puppies, for that matter) will look identical. However, there are some things that you can count on with this breed, like their alert and intelligent personalities.
Fun Facts:
- Pugapoos generally grow no taller than 15 inches and weigh between 10 and 30 pounds.
- Due to the pug and the poodle’s tendency towards hyper and affectionate temperaments, Pugapoos will inherit similar traits from their parents and require moderate levels of exercise to maintain their health.
- Owing to these traits, Pugapoos are prone to separation anxiety if not attended to or active for too long.
- Pugapoos, even from the same litter, can have different types of coats. Some will inherit the smooth coat of the pug, while others will inherit the curly coat of the poodle. Those with a curly coat will require the same regular grooming as a poodle to prevent matting of the fur and skin infections.
- Pugapoos generally live around 12 to 14 years.
- Those that inherit the pug’s short snout can have difficulties breathing when overexerted which may cause them to snort or snore during sleep.
- They can inherit health issues from both parents, and it’s difficult to tell exactly which problems the pup might face. Some of the more common issues they might face include diabetes, Addison’s disease, and retinal degeneration.
- They’re also prone to build-ups of plaque and tartar, so extra care should be taken to keep their teeth healthy to avoid issues like wobbly teeth or gum recession.
- As a smaller animal, it’s generally recommended that only older children with a more developed sense of their own strength be allowed to play with them.
