Key Buildings & Attractions at Cape May

Cape May is home to many historical monuments and churches, each with a unique story. Here’s a closer look at some of the most noteworthy buildings in the area:

The Emlen Physick Estate

Built in 1879, this Victorian-style home belonged to Emlen Physick and his family for almost 80 years. After his father’s death, Dr. Physick built a medical practice which he ran from this very same building – also known as “Cape May’s Last Great House”! Today visitors can take guided tours of this beautiful estate and learn about both local history and traditional 19th-century architecture.

Sunset Beach

Located on the eastern side of town, Sunset Beach is one of Cape May’s best-kept secrets. It’s an ideal spot for catching unbelievable sunrise & sunset views, plus it provides plenty of picnic spots perfect for families. With crystal clear waters and white sand stretching out along the shoreline, endless activities here – from kayaking to stand-up paddle boarding – make this a must-visit destination!

US Life Saving Station #30 Museum

This museum was built inside an old life-saving station back in 1941 when soldiers patrolled beaches looking for Nazi submarines off the New Jersey coast. This building has been fully restored into a wonderful museum showcasing what life was like during WWII – with interactive exhibits about the soldiers’ equipment and detailed stories about their heroic efforts.

Nature Center Of Cape May

This 7-acre nature center opened its doors in 1998 and features both woodland trails and boardwalks leading through lush wetlands where visitors can catch sight of migrating birds around peak migration times (late April/early October). There are even opportunities for guided tours – go kayaking or SUP boarding to get up close to some of these stunning animals!
